Presidential candidate Michele Bachmann tried to show off her common touch on August 16, 2011 by celebrating Elvis Presley's birthday during a speech in Spartanburg, SC.  The only problem is, the King was born on January 8, 1935.  He died on August 16, 1977.  That's a significant gaffe even by Michele Bachmann standards. Oh well, he does lives in our hearts.  And, she did choose a rocking tune to play that day: Elvis's cover of Chuck Berry's "The Promised Land."

Another immortal singer who died on August 16 was Robert Johnson (May 8, 1911 – August 16, 1938.)  One of his songs is now one of President Obama's theme songs:
