Tim Horrigan's Bush II Page

I put this web site together around the time of the 2004 election, when George W,. Bush's imperial Presidency was at its zenith. It seemed at the time that he was the scion of a dynasty which would continue with Jeb (aka Bush III) and Jeb's son George P. Bush, culminating with Barbara & Jenna. However, Bush II's reign is ending quietly, after Barack Obama won the 2008 election. The only two members of the Bush dynasty who have any political capital left at all (i.e., Condoleezza Rice and Jenna Bush Hager) both strongly hinted that they preferred Obama over the Republican nominee (Bush II's erstwhile rival) John McCain. I wouldn't be shocked if Bush II himself voted for Obama.
Bush II by far the worst President in my lifetime, and I speak as someone who survived Nixon, Bush I and Clinton. His lack of respect for democracy and the rule of law is not shocking, given the fact that he blatantly stole both the 2000 and 2004 elections. His choice to bankrupt the nation imposing (ostensibly) democracy on Iraq and other foreign lands was shocking (as well as ironic.)
But what was really shocking was his total incompetence and total lack of interest in the governance aspects of government. The notorious villains of recent human history— Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Saddam, etc.— at least had some interest in using their power to make the world a better place (albeit not a place where any sane person would want to live.) In their demented ways, these villains were trying to make their countries stronger. Bush II stood alone in his utter indifference to any goal beyond taking and keeping power, and he wasn't even successful at that goal. He was utterly uninterested in making the USA stronger. And, he was and still is an idiot (albeit an idiot who was smart enough to hand over power peacefully at the end of his second term.)
His idiocy was especially obvious after Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans. A major American city (which is also a crucial seaport serving the entire south-central US) was destroyed. He did nothing.
Here are some links to pages about Bush II. I used to have a lot more, but these are the ones which might still be of interest:
